Welcome to Decoding Peace
I never thought this day would come, but it feels like the timing could not be more ideal. I want to extend a huge WELCOME to you, and a massive thanks for joining us on the roller coaster of a ride that is to come. Welcome to Decoding Peace!
For a long time, I found myself overwhelmed by the worlds of politics and peacebuilding. The concepts being discussed and decisions being made were crucial for the future, that much was clear. Yet, so much of what I tried to learn felt out of reach — wrapped in jargon, academic theory, or institutional language that made it hard to follow, let alone act on. The more I tried to understand, the more I realised these conversations weren’t designed to include most people. The language kept us out, even when the issues affected us directly. This experience, I’ve learned, isn’t just mine. And it’s the reason Decoding Peace was born.
This photo was taken in Guyong, Australia. In it, I see the Tree of Life, and its representation of balance and harmony across all worlds. The branches reach out in the search of learning and knowledge in life, while the roots remain ever-strong, keep it grounded.
Decoding Peace is dedicated to making peacebuilding, human rights, and political processes easier to understand. We believe that complex information shouldn’t be a barrier to action, and that peace grows when more people can engage meaningfully in the conversations that shape their lives. We’ll be unpacking important speeches, breaking down dense theories, translating decisions into plain language, and highlighting the voices of others doing this work around the world. The stories shared here are a crucial piece of that — a space to share experiences, reflections, and ideas that make peace more accessible.
This space is for everyone — no matter your background, experience, or education. Decoding Peace was created with the belief that understanding should never be a privilege. Whether you’re new to these topics or deeply immersed in them, you’re welcome here.
I’m so excited for what’s to come, and I hope you’ll come along for the ride.
Stay tuned for more!
